The Cleveland Cavaliers traded Kevin Porter Jr. to the Houston Rockets last month but Kevin Love says he was the most talented guy on their roster.
Kevin Porter Jr.’s time as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers came to an end about three weeks ago with the Cavs traded him to the Houston Rockets. Porter Jr. had not played in a game for the Cavaliers this season and had been spending time away from the team for undisclosed personal reasons. In his absence, the James Harden trade to the Nets was initiated. As a part of it, the Cavs traded Porter Jr. to the Rockets for what translates to basically nothing. Things got heated when Taurean Prince, a product of the trade, was supposedly given Porter Jr.’s locker.
There had been signs of trouble with KPJ before the locker room incident, but seeing one of the organization’s brightest young players shipped off didn’t sit well with veteran Kevin Love.
The NBA champion spoke to the Road Trippin podcast about Porter Jr. and his abilities.
Kevin Love says Kevin Porter Jr. was the most talented player on the Cavaliers’ roster
Before the Porter Jr. trade, the Cavaliers had put together a really solid, young core group of KPJ, Colin Sexton, Darius Garland, and Larry Nance. Jr. Still with all of that talent, Kevin Love felt that KPJ was the best and had the most potential.
Love told Channing Frye and the rest of the Road Trippin podcast that KPJ was, “by far the most talented guy we had on our roster.”
Though Porter Jr. will no longer be a part of the Cavs’ rebuild, he still has a chance to be the player most thought he would be in Houston. At just 20 years old, KPJ averaged 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in just 23.2 minutes per game as a rookie in the NBA.
While we hope KPJ’s health and safety are his top priority, hearing Love speak so highly of him has to have NBA fans excited about his return.
