With Cassius Winston’s Michigan State Spartans falling to the UCLA Bruins, he had to wear UCLA gear to satisfy the bet he made with Washington Wizards teammate Russell Westbrook.
The Michigan State Spartans narrowly lost to the UCLA Bruins on Friday night, 86-80. All it means for a pair of Washington Wizards guards is that Cassius Winston had to wear UCLA gear for Russell Westbrook’s amusement.
These type of wagers happen all the time in the NBA and the NFL. If there is a rivalry game going on or a head-to-head matchup in March Madness, shaming your teammate by forcing him wear the gear of your alma mater is always the way to go. While Winston did not love rocking anything UCLA after a close six-point defeat, you know that Westbrook loved every single second of this.
At least Cassius Winston honored his bet with Russell Westbrook
While Winston is in the beginning of his NBA career, Westbrook is already a lock for the Basketball Hall of Fame after his brilliant run with the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, Winston will go down as one of the best players in Michigan State basketball history. Westbrook had a good two-year run at UCLA, but he is not on the level of Lew Alcindor, Bill Walton or anyone of that status.
Though the Wizards are likely to miss the Eastern Conference Playoffs, it is good to see a pair of teammates on a struggling team have fun over their love of college basketball. For as long as you play at the professional level, you are bound to play for several different teams. However, you only have one alma mater and it is within your right to rub it in someone’s face when your school wins.
Even though Winston may have looked so uncomfortable wearing UCLA colors, a bet is still a bet.
