This Blake Griffin stat proves he wasn’t washed up with Pistons after all

Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons

Blake Griffin looks revived playing for the Brooklyn Nets after looking listless with the Detroit Pistons. The dunks are definitely back.

By the end of his tenure with the Detroit Pistons, Blake Griffin looked washed up. It turns out, he still has plenty left in the tank. All he needed was a fresh start.

The Brooklyn Nets gave him that, and he’s repaid them with some excitement off the bench.

Dunks are back on the menu for the former NBA Slam Dunk Contest champ.

The dunk Griffin pulled against the Pelicans on Wednesday night was ferocious.

Think Griffin is having fun playing basketball again? It sure looks like it.

Following an All-Star nod in his first full season with the Pistons, Griffin averaged a career-low 15.5 points per game while missing extensive time due to injury during the 2019-20 season. The decline continued as the 2020-21 season arrived. In 20 games, he averaged 12.3 points per game while shooting 36.5 percent from the field before sitting out for a month while asking to be traded or released.

Detroit ended up buying out Griffin’s contract earlier this year, opening the door for him to sign with the Nets as a free agent.

Griffin has played seven games with Brooklyn. He is averaging 8.8 points per game while shooting at a much more efficient clip of 59.4 percent from the field. He isn’t the main man anymore, but he looks better for it, playing free and loose.

On Wednesday, Griffin had 10 points in just 13 minutes of action, adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal as the Nets won 139-111 over the Pelicans.

On Sunday he came close to a double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds. By no coincidence, he had his best scoring performance with his new team against the Pistons with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.
