Philadelphia 76ers fans got an anti-Kevin Durant song going en masse while closing out a victory over the visiting Brooklyn Nets.

On Wednesday night, 4,000 76ers fans watched as their team took down the Brooklyn Nets.

They celebrated by targeting Kevin Durant with a chant in the final minute.

Here’s the thing: Durant didn’t even play on Wednesday. The forward sat along with James Harden, LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin.

You can even see Durant in the footage look around confused.

A good old “[Name or team] sucks” chant is part of sports. It would just feel better if it came after besting Durant on the court. The fact that Brooklyn was missing other key players made it all the more strange.

Kevin Durant was sidelined and taunted against the 76ers

Kyrie Irving’s 37 points carried the Nets, but that wasn’t enough to get the win. Joel Embiid’s 39 points, bolstered by 26 points from Tobias Harris, led the 76ers to a 123-117 victory.

The game had meaning despite the absences. Philadelphia claimed first place in the Eastern Conference, pulling ahead of Brooklyn by one game.

Maybe the chant will succeed in getting under Durant’s skin, or it’ll light a fire under him. Time will tell, but only if the two teams meet in the playoffs. They don’t play again in the regular season.

The 76ers took the season series 2-1, though Durant missed all of those games because of injury. He has missed 33 games this year, most while rehabbing a hamstring injury. He came back into the lineup last week, but the Nets are managing his return, thus the rest on Wednesday.

Philadelphia didn’t miss their chance to take control of the East. They have won three in a row and will look to make it four on Friday against the Clippers.

Likely with Durant back in the lineup, the Nets will hope to rebound against Charlotte on Friday.
