Steph Curry says he’s ‘gotta be’ the pick for MVP this season

Steph Curry believes he is the only choice for NBA MVP this season.

Steph Curry is the reason why the Golden State Warriors remain in the Western Conference playoff picture and also why they will be a tough first-round opponent.

Curry is having a legendary season, even by his own lofty standards. The veteran is averaging 38.7 points per game in the month of April alone and hit at least 10 3-pointers in four separate games during that span. Curry is doing things never seen before in the NBA and fits the mold of what an MVP should be.

But as of right now he is not the favorite. Nikola Jokic and James Harden, along with Giannis Antetokounmpo, lead the way in terms of favorites. Curry made it clear in an interview with BasketballNews.com that he is the clear choice for the award.

Steph Curry believes he is the NBA MVP

Curry is the NBA leader in scoring just ahead of Bradley Beal and is putting up historic numbers from the floor. His MVP candidacy comes down to how voters view the award. Is it truly the most valuable player to any team? Or does it have to be a star on a team near the top of the standings?

The Warriors would be a disaster without Curry this season so on that front he is the obvious MVP. But if winning is most important, Jokic and Harden make more sense. Both have strong cases as well because of the injuries plaguing their respective teams.

Few NBA fans will have sympathy for Curry if he doesn’t win his third MVP Award. But teams in the West should be wary of what Curry is doing this season. The Warriors could be primed for another huge first-round upset that mirrors what the franchise did back in 2007.
