New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball was not going to have a bad time vs. the Golden State Warriors again.
After only scoring seven points in the New Orleans Pelicans‘ home loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday, Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball let star teammate Zion Williamson know over text that he was going to step up his game in Tuesday night’s rematch.
Ball tied his career-high of 33 points in the Pelicans’ 108-103 victory over Golden State. He shot 11-of-23 from the field, 7-of-13 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Ball also scored the go-ahead bucket late in the contest, and he even talked some trash to Warriors iconic trash talker Draymond Green before it was all said and done. This was all in a day’s work for Ball.
The Pelicans improved to 30-36 on the year, as they continue to fight for their playoff lives.
Lonzo Ball carries New Orleans Pelicans in big win over Golden State Warriors
If the 2020-21 NBA season ended today, the Pelicans would miss out on the play-in tournament by two games. They trail the division rival San Antonio Spurs for the 10th spot in the Western Conference. With their latest loss, Golden State stumbles back to .500 at 33-33. The Warriors would be the No. 8 seed if the season ended today, facing the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in.
While we are still probably a season away from the Pelicans really becoming something special, it is important to know what Ball’s free agency plans are. He could go out and get a lucrative contract elsewhere in his restricted free agency. However, playing alongside Williamson may not be a bad career choice for him after all. This will all be decided later this summer after the playoffs.
For now, Ball looked really good in his bounce-back game vs. the Warriors on Tuesday night.
