Several reasons stand out as to why the New York Knicks can actually win a playoff series this year.

The New York Knicks do not yet know what seed they will be in this year’s Eastern Conference playoffs. But the team is in and that is all that matters.

This ends a playoff drought that began in 2013, which was also the last year the team won a playoff series. Before that you have to go back to the year 2000. So while getting there is nice, the team and its fans want to win.

Making a deep postseason run is not impossible and a few reasons stand out as to why the Knicks are poised for success in this year’s NBA playoffs.

3. The star duo of Julius Randle and RJ Barrett

Let’s start with the obvious here. The Knicks actually have an All-Star leader in Julius Randle. He is averaging 24 points and over 37 minutes per game this season. Randle is also leading the team in rebounds and assists per game. So he is doing it all.

Right alongside him is second-year man and former No. 3 overall pick RJ Barrett. The 20-year-old has played in all 70 games this season and is scoring over 17 points per game.

The young, dynamic duo has fans in New York excited and there is no reason why Randle can’t go off for 30 points a night in the playoffs. That may be needed if the Knicks end up squaring off against the Brooklyn Nets or Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.

The best thing about this Knicks team is that it is not only Randle and Barrett playing at a high level. One player in particular looks like he turned back the clock nearly a decade.
