Draymond Green has been fined $25,000 for obscene gesture

The NBA has levied a fine against Warriors forward Draymond Green for the obscene gesture he made towards Grizzlies fans during Game 2.

Draymond Green laughed off the idea of being fined for flipping the bird to fans in Memphis during Game 2 of the Warriors-Grizzlies playoff series.

The NBA obliged.

On Thursday, the league announced a $25,000 fine for Green

Green showed the middle finger to Grizzlies fans who jeered him as he headed for the locker room to get treatment for a cut on his eye. He didn’t mince words after the game, doubling down on his actions.

“You gonna boo someone who was elbowed in the eye and face is running with blood, you should get flipped off,” he said. “I’ll take the fine. I’ll do an appearance and make up the money. It felt really good to flip them off. … If they are going to be that nasty, I will be nasty, too. I’m assuming the cheers were because they know I’ll be fined. Great, I make $25 million a year. I should be just fine.”

So Green was pretty much right. The fine is a drop in the bucket compared to what he makes in a season. The NBA had to punish him in some way, but that’s not exactly “don’t do it again” money.

Green and the Warriors are tied with the Grizzlies 1-1. It’s been an eventful series already after Green was questionably ejected from Game 1 with a Flagrant 2.

Then early in Game 2, Dillon Brooks took out Gary Payton II in midair, resulting in a fractured elbow for the Golden State guard. Brooks was suspended for Game 3, which is coming up on Saturday.
