Look: Shane Lowry pandering hard to Boston crowd in US Open first round

Boston Celtics, US Open Golf

Shane Lowry clearly knows his audience at the US Open right outside of Boston and is leaning into it with his first-round attire and the Celtics in mind.

There are many things that go into winning a golf tournament, particularly the US Open or any other major championship. Irishman Shane Lowry knows this better than most as he won the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush. He understands it takes a complete golf game, mental fortitude, and even a little luck.

He and everyone else also knows that it doesn’t hurt to have the crowd on your side. So he’s clearly leaning into that as he prepares to take to The Country Club at Brookline, not too far outside of Boston in Massachusetts this week for the US Open.

The evening before he takes the course, Lowry showed off his threads for the first round and, fitting only the day of Game 6 of the NBA Finals, the Irishman will be rocking the Boston Celtics logo on the bag of his shirt for his first round.

This is most definitely pandering. Yes, there is a chance that Lowry feels an affinity for the Celtics given his national heritage and the Boston franchise’s Irish connections with the shamrock, leprechaun and more.

But you can’t tell me that he would be wearing the Celtics logo on the back of his Round 1 outfit if he wasn’t playing in front of a crowd at The Country Club that will likely include a multitude of C’s fans.

Even still, it’s a cool move from Lowry and one that will surely immediately endear him to the crowd. And given the form that he’s been in this year and what this course could demand this week, maybe that could be enough to push him towards his second major win.
