The Toronto Raptors have been likely contenders for landing Kevin Durant, but they’re making it very clear that they won’t trade Scottie Barnes for him. Despite not wanting to trade their young star player, the Raptors are still considered “among the most serious threats,” according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Brooklyn Nets are rightfully driving a hard bargain for Durant. However, the Raptors have the potential to create a good trade package. They’re considered top contenders alongside the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat.
Despite Toronto refusing to trade Barnes, they’re hesitant on making any moves in case the opportunity to land Durant arises.

The Raptors are reluctant to sign Christian Koloko, which is likely because they want to be flexible enough to sign Durant if the opportunity comes up. Durant would be a good addition to any team, but he’s expensive and isn’t eligible for free agency until 2026.
Durant is just one season into his four-year contract that’s worth $194.2 million. He’s undoubtedly one of the best players in the NBA. Over the 2021-22 season, he averaged 29.9 points per game, 7.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists. He also had a 51.8 field goal percentage and 38.3 3-point percentage.
It’s no surprise that the Nets want a big return for the star player. However, the Raptors are capable of providing what Brooklyn wants and they should pursue him.
