In case you’ve been caught up in the football season and haven’t checked in with the NBA, you’ll be surprised to hear the defending champion Golden State Warriors are 20-21. Steph Curry has missed time, but even when he came back against Phoenix on Tuesday, they still lost to the Suns without Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton.
That depleted Phoenix lineup doesn’t look much different than this year’s San Antonio Spurs roster, so Gregg Popovich’s team might have a chance tonight.
Let’s take a look at the odds for this game down in Texas, the first of a five game road trip for Golden State.
Warriors vs. Spurs odds, spread and total
Warriors vs. Spurs prediction and pick
The Warriors have serious issues this year and Curry coming back didn’t solve them. They should have their full lineup tonight, but they all played on Tuesday and that didn’t go well. They’re 18th in offensive rating while playing at the fastest pace in the NBA. So, their offense is a problem, but Curry should help turn them back into a top 10 offense.
On defense, they were very bad on Tuesday, giving up 48 points in the paint to Phoenix and they desperately need both Draymond Green and Kevon Looney on the floor to survive defensively. Despite all of this if they’re healthy I would still pick them to come out of the western conference.
However, they need to start winning and get home court advantage to do it. The Spurs are tanking this year and they have more wins on the road than Golden State, that’s how bad this team has been away from home. The Warriors are 3-16 on the road and they’re 0-5 against the spread in their last five road games against a team with a losing record. It feels gross, but so has the Warriors season. Give me the Spurs and I’m swinging big with a big plus sign moneyline.
